STUDY MATERIALS:

Study manuals have been handed to every student at the beginning of the school year but you can download the manual in pdf format as well here.

SCRIPTURE MASTERY:

There are 25 scripture mastery verses you will need to memorize. Cards and copies of the scriptures were handed out to ALL of my students at the beginning of the year.

SEMINARY POLICY:

Tardiness

Morning classes start at 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. Anyone arriving one minute after the start of the hour is tardy. Make-up work will be required for every three tardies. Anyone leaving class before the teacher dismisses will be marked tardy and the same make-up requirement will apply. If a student is consistently tardy, the accumulation of missed class time will add up to full days missed which can affect the student’s grade and seminary credit.

(Teacher's Comment: If you leave class to go to the restroom and don't come back, I cannot give you credit for the day. You will be marked 'absent'.)

Food or Drinks

No food or drinks are allowed in the classroom by any student. Teachers are asked to limit treats and food to very rare occasions.

Dress

Students should dress appropriately and modestly – no pajamas or overly tattered clothing. If cheerleaders are going to wear their cheerleading outfits to school, they should wear something else to seminary and then change after seminary. Students wearing inappropriate clothing will be asked to go home and return the next day.

Restrooms

Students should go straight to their classes as soon as they arrive at the building. They should not go to the rest rooms during class time, only in the case of rare exceptions.

Electronic Devices

No cell phones or iPods are allowed in seminary classes. Cell phones and iPods can be deposited in a basket as students enter the class then retrieved when class ends each day.

How To Make Up Absences

1. The easiest and most effective way is to attend any of the afternoon classes. There's a 1:30 and a 2:30 both taught by Bro. Strobelt. These classes are SUPERB and you will benefit so much from them. It is IMPORTANT that you make sure that Bro. Strobelt signs your green attendance card and then hand that over to me. Otherwise, I cannot record these days.

2. Completing work sheets from the Student Manual. Each student was issued a student manual. Chapters are assigned by me. Make up work MUST equal the time of each seminary class missed. So time spent on one assignment has to equal about 45 minutes to complete. To be clear, a work sheet is comprised of CHAPTER HEADING activities/exercises chosen by me. (Usually only 2-3 activities) I will choose FOUR chapters that I feel are sufficient work to equal what we do in one class. Please let me know if you need more than four days worth and I will choose more to equal the number of days you want to make-up.

3. Writing an essay paraphrasing a talk given during April or October Conference. Students must talk to me about this also as topics are ASSIGNED by me. Summaries must have 300 words or more and contain the following elements:

a) The title of the talk and the name of the speaker.
b) A synopsis of the MAIN points of the entire talk.
c) A statement on how you feel about the talk: your insights, related scripture references and how you plan to apply the principles in your life.

You must be ready to discuss your thoughts with me briefly upon submission. EACH summary is equal to ONE DAY made up.

Make up days must be meaningful and yes, require a little bit more effort. The idea is that you ATTEND seminary, NOT make up absences.

4. Meaningful notes taken for every speaker in each session of the October 2008 conference. Each session equals ONE make-up day. That means that potentially, you can garner FOUR make-up days for the October General Conference. (2 sessions for Saturday, and 2 for Sunday).
